Peter
Johnson,
son of Peter & Ann,
was born before 1650 and died May 1705 in St. Mary's County. He
married Jane ______ before 1680. We have a will for Peter made in 1701 and proved May 2,
1705.
He apparently lived on "Johnson's Start" in St. Mary's
County. He was naturalized in the 1664 legislative session. His will was
probated in St. Mary's county on May 2, 1705 and he left his son Leonard
Johnson a tract of land located at the head of Chaptico Bay called "The
Plain." This Leonard Johnson's descendants are of Charles County,
Maryland. He left his daughter Mather Johnson a plantation on Chaptico Bay
known as "Yarrows Landing." Will Book P.C. 1, 1638-72 p. 137, Will Book HH
1, 1776-1777, Accts. 1674-1720, p. 158. Ethelbert Doyle was accountant for
Peter Johnson's estate and by 1707 his widow Jane _____ had married Ethelbert
Doyle who lived in Charles County, Maryland.
According to Ms. Cryer, "Mather" Johnson
takes her name from Cotton Mather, the famous Puritan preacher. At
any rate we know she was a daughter so Martha could also be a possibility.
