James Oscar
Johnson, the son of
Francis DeSales & Lucy Edwina
(Mattingly) Johnson, was
born on August 12, 1926 in Morganza, Maryland. He
joined the Navy at age 17, and
from 1943 to August, 1947 was stationed in the South Pacific.
He served on the Battleship Wisconsin and the destroyer Macon.
After World
War II he married Helen Ruth
Lusk on January 16, 1948 in Hyattsville, Maryland. Helen Ruth Lusk
was born on August 16, 1929 in Shelltown, Maryland. Her parents were
Thomas William Lusk & Rebecca Emma Bell
Lusk.
James was a
heavy construction operator for Arnold Parreco & Sons, Inc. before he
retired on January 1, 1989. He owned and operated his own heavy
construction equipment in the 40's and 50's before going to work for
Parreco. He was a member of Local 77 Operating Engineers for over 50
years. His hobbies are camping with the Road Runners of College Park Moose
Lodge and working on his cars and trucks.
Helen is a homemaker. Her hobbies are camping with the Road Runners,
Crafts, Genealogy and Computers. Helen always made the wedding cakes for
the family. She has been working on the family history for 30 years and
has traced the Johnson, Lusk and Bell family histories back to the 1700's.
James and his wife reside in Lanham,
Maryland, but have also purchased a home in N. Fort Myers, FL and spend
the winter months there.
Here they are
seen at their 50th Anniversary party with their daughter Sue Blackwell,
their son-in-law Mike and oldest grandson, Jim Blackwell.
