John Irwin Freeburn, son of Hill Freeburn & Martha Glynn Freeburn, was born August 26, 1769 in Pennsylvania.  He died in 1839 in Jackson Twp, Dauphin Co., PA.  John Irwin's first wife was Mary Hanna Keiter who was the daughter of Peter Keiter (b: 1738 d: 1801) and Gertraut Boocher Keiter (b. Abt. 1738).  It is believed she was about the same age as John at the time of their marriage, or a little younger.

It is believed that John lived in Middle Paxtang Township in Dauphin county during the war of 1812.  He and his brother Robert enlisted in Capt. John Divens Company of rifleman. Later he appears on the rolls of the solider of the War of 1812, this time in the 2nd Regiment of Infantry under Col. Richards.  On that date, Aug. 26, 1814, he is listed as a "Sgt."

Catherine appears to have died young as she does not appear in the 1820 census it is believed she died prior to that.  Hanna appears in the 1810 census but not in the 1820 so it appears she also died in this interval.

Freeburn children were:

Catherine b. May 10, 1796
Martha b. Feb. 28, 1798
Mary b. Jul. 1799
Daniel b. Jul 11, 1802
Elizabeth b. Dec. 5, 1806
John Irwin, Jr. b. Jul. 30, 1811

This one is open to dispute.  Some sources say this is simply Jane Buchanan.  The confusion comes about, Drake notes in his book, because there is a partial tombstone with the inscription "Anna Jane Kline, wife of John Freeburn."  If in fact Anna Jane Kline was John's third wife we know she was born March 3, 1781, and Died on October 2, 1839).  Her parents were Godfried and Mary Sweigard Kline.  Although it doesn't agree with the tombstone she was said to be "56y 6mo 14d" at the time of her death.
