St.
Ignatius Church in St. Inigoes,
Maryland was established in 1641 by Father Andrew White who was one of
the first Jesuits to arrive in the new colony of Maryland. This
church has one of the oldest cemeteries in America. The present
church was built in 1798 by Fr. Charles Sewall, S.J. and is dedicated to
St. Ignatius Loyola. Unfortunately the church records were destroyed
in a fire on December 27, 1866 but the baptismal book began in 1862 was
