Joseph Johnson, son of Philip Johnson and Mary Thomas, was born March 21, 1812 and died November 23, 1871.  He is buried at Sacred Heart RCC Cemetery.  He married Eleanor "Ellen" Lawrence on January 6, 1845.  She was born in 1817 and died on October 3, 1853.  She is also buried at Sacred Heart RCC.  She was the daughter of Monica Lawrence, widow.

Monica Lawrence's will of December 11 1845 left one negro girl to her daughter Ellen Lawrence Johnson.  Joseph & Ellen Johnson received one negro woman from her mother's estate August 31, 1845.  She left one negro boy to daughter Sarah Elizabeth Gisbon. Monica Lawrence also had one son, John Francis Lawrence, who married Elizabeth Johnson.

JOSEPH & RUTH ANN _______ JOHNSON

Joseph Johnson married a second time to Ruth Ann ______, born 1817 and died May 4, 1871.  They had no children.  She is also buried at Sacred Heart RCC Cemetery.

In 1860 Joseph Johnson's cousin, Anna Catherine Johnson, daughter of Henry Johnson & Susaana Catherine Herbert was part of his household.  George Tenerson, age 23, farm laborer, was also living with Joseph and Ruth in 1879.

The "St. Mary's Beacon" reported Joseph Johnson, age 65, died November 23, 1871 at his residence on St. Clement Bay of pneumonia, buried at Sacred Heart RCC.  Mrs. Joseph Johnson, age 60, buried May 4, 1871 at Sacred Heart RCC. 

The tombstone of Joseph Johnson is spelled "Johnstone" and his date of death is listed as November 24, 1872.  Ruth's tombstone has her date of death as May 4, 1871.

Joseph Johnson willed his real estate to George F. Tenerson and by him $100 to go to Martha Ann Bailey, daughter of Bennet Johnson.  If she should die the $100 to be paid to the heirs of John J. & William T. Bailey.  $100 to go to Mr. Mary E. Mattingly, daughter of Henry Johnson, or to her heirs.  William F. Leach to be guardian to minor children. $100 to St. Joseph RCC and $100 to Sacred Heart RCC.  Residence left to William F. Leach.
